Excuse Me Mr Home Minister Your Fly Is Down

Hantu Luat

If you don't ask sensible questions you are not likely to get sensible answers.

I wonder who gave the statistics to our Home Minister when he made a dire comparison of our PDRM with that of the NYPD, saying  that the police to population ratio in New York is 1:35 and in Malaysia 1:700, which means in New York 1 policeman serves 35 people.

Correct?

No!

He says we should not blame the Malaysian police for the rise in crime because there are just not enough police to police the country.Read here.

True?

Not exactly!

Look like another request is coming asking for more money for the police force and the Prime Minister had indicated that he is willing to give whatever the police want.

Home Minister Zaid Hamidi should kick some asses in his office as the figures he quoted were incorrect.

Upon checking the NYPD website, I found out that they have a total force of 34,500 men and New York City according to the 2012 census has a population of 8,336,697, which gives a ratio of 1:242. The NYPD website here.

Checking the PDRM website to find out what is the full strength of our police force came to naught, I could not find any such information. As usual, like most of our government department websites it makes dismal reading.

However, forward regardless, not giving up, I eventually found the information in Wikipedia, which stated there are 102,037 sworn members of the PDRM, which takes to mean that there are that many in the police force and Malaysia has a population of 27,544,000 people, which gives a ratio of 1:269.

Word of caution, Wikipedia is good but not error-free. So! if the Minister wish to dispute this figure he is most welcome.

I personally think the police is not understaffed, our police to population ratio is respectable, it is the will that is lacking in the police force. Every successive IGP did nothing to clean up the force of dirty cops. They only talk smart after they have left the force.

Not all cops are dirty, but there are enough dirty cops to give the force a bad name and these lowlifes must be weeded out. They have done great injustice to the people and country. Their misdeeds have allowed criminals to go on crime spree because these criminals know they get protection from some dirty cops.

The Home Minister and IGP should stop defending the police, instead, they should start cleaning up the police force of corrupt and dirty officers.

The crime statistic had made the police force indefensible of blame.

Good Cops,Bad Cops And Bad Home Minister

Hantu Laut

Home Minister Zahid Hamidi shouldn't have jumped the gun and defended the police without any concrete evidence to support his claim. He rubbished talk of police involvement after allegation made by former IGP Musa Hassan of dirty cops in the force.

There are good cops, bad  cops everywhere and Malaysia is no exception.

Zahid Hamidi being the minister responsible for the police force and internal security should have assured the people that he will leave no stone unturned to investigate the shooting and attempted murder of crime watchdog activist R. Sri Sanjeevan instead of defending the police blindly

It seems we are out of the frying pan and into the fire. After the vacuous and vapid Hishammudin Onn, I would have thought there would be a better man to helm this highly sensitive and important ministry. As Nelson Mendela verbalised "You don't have that idea when you are arrogant, superficial and uninformed"

Is Zahid competent to be the Home Minister ?

Here, he said "I know Sanjeevan personally and I will make sure that there are no police involved in the incident"

I wonder whether one can consider this as intelligent statement when a crime had been committed and the person is fighting for his life. How can he make sure dirty cops are not involved when the person has already been shot? Sanjeevan was shot soon after his attempt to reveal the names of dirty cops in the force.

The video that probably trigger off the hit against him.

Kuala Lumpur is now definitely a crime capital of the world. There have been too many drive by shooting and most cases remained unsolved.

Yesterday, another man fell victim to the assassin's bullets. Arab Malaysian Development Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi was shot dead in his car and his wife who was with him injured.

The hit on Sanjeevan must be by hired killer hired by someone who want to silence him.

Dirty cops are the lowest of the low life and should be hunted down and brought to justice.

In spite of the increase in organised and dangerous crime and spate of drive-by killings the police seem to be sitting on its laurel, preferring to direct its effort to prosecute opposition politicians and bloggers over trivial issues.

Example must come from the top, the IGP and Home Minister must adopt zero tolerance against dirty cops and criminals under their protection.

Scorpene Submarines: Lord Charles (Chahl) Tells All

Hantu Laut

Read how Suaram spun the yarn on the Scorpene submarines deal.

I have always had my doubts of this NGO run by witches, sorcerers and political vagabonds used by the political oppositions

Now that Pakatan had lost the elections and Anwar Ibrahim failed to grab the covetous title more must be done to rattle Najib's cage.

Read the VOICE take on Suaram chasing the chimera and a tell all by Jasbir Singh Chahl, endearingly known among friends as Lord Chahl, or, if you wish, the English version of the more esteemed Lord Charles.

Would Lord Charles story have taken a different path if Anwar and Pakatan had won the 13th General Elections?

Sarawak Reenacts Independence from Britain

Pointed reminder to the federal government that the state has its own history
Last Monday was the 50th anniversary of Sarawak independence from Britain. Although it wasn't a gazetted public holiday, the local newspapers over the preceding week highlighted the upcoming reenactment of the independence ceremony, in which the last British Governor Sir Alexander Waddell formally handed sovereignty over to Tuan Haji Openg, the first Yang di-Pertua –governor—on behalf of the people of Sarawak.

The ceremony, forgotten in the past, appeared to be a pointed reminder to the national government in Putra Jaya that elements in both Sabah and Sarawak are demanding a more assertive approach to the governance of their own affairs.

The British took over the role of protecting Sarawak in 1888, formally becoming a colony in July 1946. On 22nd July 1963 Britain granted Sarawak full independence, where it became a sovereign state in its own right.

Many, if not most Malaysians are unaware that Sarawak was indeed, if only for a short time, a fully independent state before it entered into the Malaysia Agreement to form the Federation of Malaysia along with Sabah, Malaya, and Singapore, which formally came into effect on 16th September 1963, the actual birth date of Malaysia. Sarawak's, like Sabah's status within the Federation was defined by the 18 Points Agreement, which gave Sarawak (20 points in Sabah) sole responsibility in governing many aspects of its territory.Read more.

Mr Prime Minister, Sabah Has No Diesel !

Hantu Laut,

This is what I put on Facebook under my real name.

Najib, are we moving forward or backward. Your "fixed deposit" state ran out of diesel. Everywhere you go, either the diesel pump is "rosak" or "diesel habis".

Did you not promise, come hell or high water, this "fixed deposit" state would get better attention and care.

So soon you forget that we Sabahans and Sarawakians saved you from being vanquished by Anwar Ibrahim.

The irony is we are oil producing state.Whatever happened to all the oil? Export everything and leave nothing for us.Give us low grade diesel and petrol.

All Petronas stations in Sabah only sell RON95, unlike in Tanah Air Melayu, where they sell both grades. We can only get RON97 from selected Shell and Esso stations.

The rarified Petronas morons think all Sabahans are poor because we have become famous for being the poorest state in Malaysia and think Sabahans can't afford posh cars, can only afford Kancils, kapchais and bicycles.

Have all our wells dried up or the government had stopped the subsidy because the coffers are empty?

Maybe, it's not your fault, but that's what happen when you engaged the wrong people to do the job.

They are logistically fucked!

Sabah, is highly dependent on diesel because of the high population of 4X4 vehicles.

It is unbelievable that an oil producing country like Malaysia can run out diesel. There are long queues at every petrol station in the state rendering people to wait for hours causing great inconvenience and hardship to the people.  Some stations have completely run out of diesel.

Mr Prime Minister, I am or was your ardent supporter before the election, but if you continue to look at Sabah this way, I am afraid your "fixed deposit" would have disappeared before the next general elections.

You need to kick some asses!

Surprisingly, none of Pakatan leaders raise hell over this issue.

Maybe, they don't care too.

Welcome To Cows,Horses,Camels And Women

Hantu Laut

Welcome to the Muslim World, where cows, horses, camels and women are deemed alike and should be treated as such.

Was it religion or men who evinced that women are inferior to men?

Was it religion, culture or poverty that necessitates child marriage?

Why was it more prevalent in Islamic societies and less in other societies?

I will not render an answer. I wish my readers will help with some answers.

Thither Malaysia's Costliest Buy-Election

Hantu Laut

Though, traditionally, has always been an UMNO keep, he is not taking any chances, must win this insignificant by-election at all cost.

Losing it may have serious repercussion on his political future.

Prime Minister Najib knew the backwaters of this country like the back of his hand. No need for too many long pedantic speeches, he knew what the people want, what they expect him to bring and what he should leave behind after his departure.

.....but as Mahathir implied 'the people knew it's not his money'

Nevertheless, if the end justifies the means ?

Why not?

Money, money, money. The oppositions averaged the cost at RM19,000. per voter!.....and still counting.

Najib's Perverse Incentive

Hantu Laut

Two more days to Kuala Besut by-election. What are the chances of PAS winning this one?

It is almost certain that BN will win this by-election, but like in all election there are elements of surprise and a PAS win will be Najib's big loss. A loss that may eventually lead to his removal.

At the moment he has no rival that can match him for the UMNO presidency, but things can change very quickly as there are barbarians at the gate waiting for the gate to open.

Najib is already the weakest prime minister after failing to improve on BN worst performance in 2008 that eventually brought down his predecessor Abdulah Ahmad Badawi. He fared worse than Badawi in total number of seat for BN, but improved on the Malays votes, which will be the bulwark of Malay political power.

BN can only stay in power if it can preserve the rural Malays, Sabah and Sarawak natives votes. The 13th GE has shown that BN can go without Chinese votes. However, getting two-thirds will be a long distance call.

One can't blame Najib for not trying. He tried his best to woo the Chinese with his offering of magnanimity, but was completely forsaken by the Chinese community.

The Chinese can live in a state of denial that it was not a Chinese tsunami, in reality it was, with a little help from the urban Malays, who rightly or wrongly think they do not need the stale and outdated UMNO anymore.

To the urban Malays UMNO has failed and corruptions had become so entrenched it is almost impossible to change the mindset of the leaders. UMNO will only change after they have tasted defeat.

The Chinese are completely disillusioned with the Chinese parties in BN considered as lapdogs of UMNO and saw in DAP the rise of Chinese political power. Almost 8 out of every 10 Chinese voters voted for DAP. Without the massive support DAP would not have been able to to garner 38 parliamentary seats and was leader of the pack.

PAS lamented that Najib is again pumping too much taxpayers money into the by-election, which they reckoned has reached RM377 million. A princely sum for such a small district.

Will the money and promises of developmental projects ensure a BN win?

Najib did the same at the 13th GE offering donations to Chinese schools and other give aways to the community. He used billion of ringgits for his BRIM payout.

As Mahathir says there was no effect on the people of his benevolence because the rakyat knew it was not his money, it's the rakyat's money.

I agree with Mahathir, it's perverse incentive or a cobra effect. Read what cobra effect here.

Loyar Bodoh Pandai!

Hantu Laut

There is a limit to free speech. You can't go around insulting other religion or other race and thereafter claimed immunity under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution on the basis of free speech.

With advice like this who needs a lawyer.
This half-past-six lawyer should stop calling herself a lawyer.

Free speech does not allow you to insult other religion. Propagating hate or insulting others on the basis of race, colour and religion is a crime. Hate crime can lead to violence and death.

Though, I do not agree with the severity of the punishment, appropriate action must be taken against the couple as deterrent to others.

Not taking action can open the floodgate of racial and religious slurs.

Just read the many nasty racist comments on blogs and social media, one can assume that this country is not short of racists and bigots out there waiting to unleash their torrent of racial abuses.

This Is Not About, Dare I Say It, Pigs !

WE all know that Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee did with the "bak kut teh" invite and all. So I'm not going to drag everybody through all that nonsense  again. And we all know the anger they triggered among Muslims and non-Muslims. So I'm not going to repeat the angry words and the calls for them to be "lynched".
Instead let's take a look at Mohamad Hanipa Madin, the lawyer-cum-PAS MP for Sepang. Rather what he said recently about the couple via a statement carried by The Malaysian Insider.
To Hanipa, the couple should be given a chance to "redeem"  for their mistakes. "Any act of insulting religion, any faith for that matter, is despicable," said Hanipa. But in this case both have apologised and should be given a chance and not repeat what they had done.
Islam, said Hanipa, is a about compassion and also "agama rahmah" or religion of mercy. "So I feel there's nothing wrong for Muslims to accept their apology."
He is suggesting a "soft and delicate" approach be used so that negative thoughts the couple have towards the religion can be removed. He cited a case of a non-Muslim poet in the days of Prophet Muhamad.
The poet, said Hanipa, would often insult the prophet until one of the prophet's companion, Umar al Khatab, could not take it anymore that he wanted to pull off the teeth of the poet.
"The prophet prevented Umar from doing so. Finally the poet embraced Islam and put his skills to good use in propagating the religion," said Hanipa, quoting Islamic history.
"Islam will not be weakened by the insulting act of the couple and Islam will not be strengthened by our loud call for action to be taken against them using draconian laws such as the Sedition Act," Hanipa was quoted as saying.
Anyway, reaction to Hanipa statement was missed as expected. And he had his share of angry words.
Hanipa, and to an extent PAS, were told to "stop playing politics as GE is over". Also, he (and PAS of course) stand accused of "encouraging act of insulting islam in the holy month of Ramadan".
By sheer coincidence or not, on the same day Hanipa made his statement, the AFP news agency ran a report from Australia. According  to the report, Australian police have began investigations after the remains of two pigs including their heads and entrails were dumped at a Muslim cemetery in a memorial park near Perth. The incident comes during the month of Ramadan.
Iqbal Samnakay, chairman of Perth Muslim social and sports association, said the desecration of any burial site, Muslim or not, was offensive.

Alvivi: Has The AG Gone Overboard ?

Hantu Laut

I disagree with this

I think the AG (Attorney-General) has gone overboard. Looking at the picture and the message I really don't see the justification for such severe punishment. Though, in my earlier posting I said they should face the music, I would have thought a fine would suffice.

Young people, sometimes, make mistake out of foolishness and we must draw a balance between an actual crime or a joke that has gone sour because it touched raw nerves, the sensitivity of some people. A prank that had blown unto itself.

I guess Alvin and Vivian thought they were being clever when they posted the photo and caption that draw the ire of Muslims in the country.

Maybe, not all Muslims, some may have taken it lightheartedly and consider it a joke.

I suppose, different strokes for different folks.

Well, if we Muslims can accept beef bacon and turkey ham, how come halal bak kut teh can spook us?

Almost all major hotels in the country serve halal bacon and ham.

We have halal bak kut teh in Sabah.

It just a name, like beef bacon and turkey ham.

I still think the couple should not get away with what they did, but does the crime justify the punishment?

Even rape, a heinous crime is bailable.

Forbes Malaysia's 50 Richest: Apa Lagi Cina Mahu ?

Hantu Laut

We all can play the devil's advocate.

Are the Chinese really second class citizens in this country? Marginalised, sidelined, unrecognised and unappreciated?

So, if that is true, how come there are so many rich Chinese in this country?

Of course, the Chinese will say they work hard, harder than the Malays, which is true, no one will dispute that. Not only they work harder, they are also very frugal with money. They spent money to make more money. They not only take, they also give back to society when they become very rich.

The question is if the Chinese were so discriminated against by the government how was it possible that their enterprising nature were allowed to bloom freely making many of them filthy rich?

Aren't liberal government policies part of the reasons the Chinese had it easy to conduct their business in the country?

The words discrimination and sidelined have been used very freely by some Chinese leaders in the opposition.

Forbes just released the list of Malaysia's 50 Richest.

In the Top 10, there is 1 Malay and 1 Indian, the rest Chinese.

In the Top 50 there are only 9 Malays, 2 or 3 Indians, the rest Chinese.

The combined wealth of the Chinese in the Top 10 is $40 billion compared to the Malay chicken feed $2.7 billion of one lone ranger.

I need not give the total wealth in the Top 50. It can reach the stars.

Hahaha! Should I say (pun intended)....... apa lagi Cina mahu?

Maybe, the Malays should work harder for their money...........not just waiting for windfall from government projects without sweats.
