Sorry, Is A Word Never Said Wrong

Hantu Laut

It is sickening to find out the kind of lies those in higher authority are prepared to condone.

The IGP and Minister of Home Affairs have misaligned themselves by their hasty decisions to try protect those errant policemen and listened to their lies to try absolve themselves from the responsibility for the death of the innocent boy.The police should not get away with impunity. The IGP must show the people that no one is above the law including his policeman.

Malaysian Insider reported here a witness' version of events leading to the tragic shooting, Aminulrashid's friend who rode with him in the car but managed to escape after being assaulted by five policemen. He could have been dead as well.

The whole nation is watching and waiting for the next step Prime Minister Najib would take to satisfy public outcry over this gross dereliction of duty of both the IGP and the Home Minister.Their statements showed no concern for the feelings of the deceased family and public opinion. Such behaviour is ignominious. Both have poor people skills damaging Najib's efforts to endear the people to his administration.Arrogance, apathy and pomposity unfitting of a civil servant and a government minister.Least they forget, both are paid by taxpayer's money to protect the people not bully them when faced with a situation.

If Najib wants to survive the next general elections he must first arrest the deteriorating quality of his administration. Many of his ministers have exhausted their shelf-lives and unfit for the job. They are deadwood and still live in their fantasy land and think everything is hunky-dory without realising that every time they open their faulty mouths they made fools of themselves and foods for the oppositions and Najib losing his hair.

The BN and UMNO in particular is ubiquitously trapped in hierarchical politics. Promote its people to a level of incompetence. Many UMNO ministers have no people skills. They got all confused, where the cart and where the horse should be.They think the people owe it to them when it should be the other way round. Many can't work under pressure spoiled by over fifty years of nonchalant administration spoiled by the minimal opposition.Since March 2008 the political landscape has changed and with it the loss of their comfort zones.

It makes one wonder how people like Hisamuddin Onn, who has exceeded his effective scope, can rise to be given most crucial ministry where security of the nation and safety of the general public is placed in his hands.Peter Principal applied to him and a number of our ministers and civil servants including the former Home Minister who left his burning glass behind.

The IGP should not find justification and imputed righteousness in defending his men and retorted that the public did not show any appreciation to the police including for those killed in the line of duty.

Those are occupational hazards that came with that type of job and members of the public do sympathise. We gave our sympathy in silence. The IGP should not expect spontaneous public outcry every time a policeman got killed in the line of duty.

I have never met a nasty or rude policeman, those that I have encountered even at road blocks are pleasant and polite.Maybe, things are different in Sabah, where violent crimes may not be as high as in big city like Kuala Lumpur putting policemen under a lot of stress.Still, no reason for the IGP and minister to be on the defensive.

Najib should call for the resignation of both the IGP and Home Minister for mishandling of the case.

This is not the first time, there were many instances. The video below is the case of another victim Norizan, shot five times.Fortunately, with five bullets shot at her she survived.

Every life matters, no matter how small.Every parents, husband, wife, daughter and son suffered the loss of their loved ones. It's excruciatingly heart rending for those who has to face its reality.

I support the BN concept but I shall not be blinded.I don't and can't support this kind of behaviour.

Sorry, is a word never said wrong, which many of us have not learned to say when it's most needed.

The Many Faces Of Anwar Ibrahim

Hantu Laut

It is real, is it doctored, looks like me, seems like me,is that really me?

Never seen before photo of Anwar Ibrahim with a conceited smirk on his face. Was it computer enhanced or was it the real Anwar?

The Anwar only those who has close encounters with would know.

Anwar Ibrahim still a good friend of the Jewry.

During the 1990s, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and a group of U.S. Senators organized a forum to exchange views among East Asians and Americans. Asked at one session about the role of Islam in politics, Anwar replied, "I have no use for governments which call themselves Islamic and then deny basic rights to half their population."

This devout Muslim leader was an impressive and eloquent advocate of tolerance, democracy and human rights. So we were shocked by his arrest and trial in 1998 on charges of corruption and sodomy. I felt his real "crime" had been to challenge Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, whose impressive record will be forever stained by his treatment of Anwar. I joined Senator Sam Nunn and others to speak out in Anwar's defense. When he was finally released from prison in 2004, U.S. policy on Iraq was unpopular in Malaysia, and Anwar was harshly critical. It would have been easy for him to disown our friendship, but he is not that kind of person. He kept the channels of dialogue open, even while making clear our disagreements.

Anwar, 60, is back in the center of Malaysian politics. The coalition led by his wife Wan Azizah has become the main opposition bloc. His future role can be determined only by Malaysians. One can hope that they will embrace his brand of tolerance, valuing dialogue across political differences, and that this courageous leader will continue to play a leading role on the world stage.

Wolfowitz is a former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense and one of the main architect of the Iraq War.

Police Brutality Videos

Hantu Laut

Police brutality exists everywhere. It is not something we should condone.Such waywardness and violent behaviour were the result of high-strung cops being given field jobs.

Police forces all over the world do not have systematic procedures to identify highly stressed, unstable and potently dangerous cops letting lose such errant cops on the streets making them even more lethal than the criminals.Another factor is the low standards set for entry into the force.I am not sure what the minimum educational requirement for our police.Maybe, someone can enlighten me on this.

Education does play important part in the making of a person.A cop with better education would better understand discipline and the rules of engagement. The police is supposed to protect us not endanger us

Malaysia is not alone in this shameful act of brutality and use of excessive force by the police.Suhakam reported 44 such deaths in 2009 which by any measure is excessively high.None of those involved in fatal shootings, at least not to my knowledge, has been pulled up for failure to adhere to the rules of engagement.

The famous police brutality caught on video was that of a known criminal Rodney King in Los Angeles.A portion of the footage was aired by news agencies around the world. All four officers were tried in state court but acquitted. The acquittal sparked the 1992 Los Angeles Riots.A federal court trail later sent two officers to prison and the other two acquitted.

Police brutality become common place in highly criminalised areas where police have to work under tremendous pressure.Such areas make police vulnerable to violent attacks by criminals.Still, there is nor reason for police to discharge firearm unless shot upon or the criminal is seen visibly armed.

The picture of police brutality in Malaysia is different from say the US or UK.Here, it is highly politicised by the oppositions not so much as a matter of concern but for political reason, more as material for gaining political mileage by running it down as branch of the government.Unfair as it may be, the oppositions have successfully painted the police as the bad boys.

I do not doubt there are some real videos of actual happenings of police brutality but some of the videos posted on YouTube on police beatings looked suspicious and may have been staged as part of the campaign to discredit the administration.

To restore public confidence the death of Amirulrashid should be thoroughly investigated by an independent commission of enquiry and the police should not cover up or refused to take punitive action against the policeman responsible.

Below are videos of police brutality from various part of the world.

Anwar Ibrahim's Stench Warfare Backfired

Hantu Laut

'Sapandai-pandi tupai melumpat akhirnya jatuh ka tanah jua' the Malay would say if you are too smart for you own good.

At last the Western world waking up to Anwar Ibrahim's hypocrisy and political doublespeak.

Read the article below.

The Reversal of Anwar Ibrahim

by Rachel Motte

This week, Barack Obama reached out once more to the Muslim world. Following his promise last June in Cairo, President Obama hosted a Summit on Entrepreneurship, “to identify how we can deepen ties between business leaders, foundations and social entrepreneurs in the United States and Muslim communities around the world.” Bringing together 250 participants from 60 countries, the Administration once again tried to build bridges between East and West, and even brought Secretary of State Hillary Clinton along to close the summit on Tuesday evening.

Yet it remains as hard as ever to figure out who are America’s real friends and allies in the Muslim world, aside from the good King and Queen of Jordan, a handful of emirates, and the Saudi royals. Take the strange case of Malaysia, for example. The Malaysian state and its ruling party are broadly constructive and cooperative with the United States — but its political opposition is another story. And that’s the reverse of what often gets portrayed in Western media.

The present Malaysian leadership is pro-business, pro-American and prepared to stand up and be counted in the Muslim world as a strategic U.S. ally. During the recent Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak pledged to assist Washington on numerous fronts, and even shut off petroleum supplies to Iran within hours of returning home to Kuala Lumpur.

Though Malaysia isn’t quite as far along as Muslim nations such as Jordan or Egypt with respect to Israel — it refuses to recognize the Jewish state or its passports — its official anti-Israel position does not come from a societal wellspring of anti-Semitism. Though Malaysia used to have a small Jewish community of its own, it dwindled as a consequence of the Second World War rather than, as in most of the Muslim world, as vengeance for Israel’s founding.

Malaysia’s reputation as a majority-Muslim nation known for moderation and stability is hard won in this decade, and a result of the leadership of the present Prime Minister and his immediate predecessor.

Prior to October 2003, Malaysia’s position as a responsible member of the community of nations was less certain. This was thanks to the country’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammed. Even in power, Mahathir was a well-known anti-Semite and anti-American.

This past January, Mahathir declared that the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States were “staged as an excuse to mount attacks on the Muslim world.” He didn’t stop there. Speaking at that same month’s General Conference for the Support of Al-Quds (that is, the Arabic name for Jerusalem), he declared that Israel was created to solve “the Jewish problem” in Europe after Hitler failed to complete the Final Solution. “Even after their massacre by the Nazis of Germany,” said Mahathir, the Jews “survived to continue to be a source of even greater problems for the world.”

The case of Mahathir isn’t merely one of a has-been politician with a penchant for vile Jew-baiting. He still retains influence with hardliners. And the man whom he mentored, and then repudiated, is now leader of Malaysia’s political opposition — and he’s showing the world how well he learned under Mahathir’s tutelage.

Anti-Semitism is now resurgent in Malaysia thanks to opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, a charismatic firebrand of a politician who collaborated with Mahathir — as a deputy prime minister and top aide— for nearly a decade in a relationship that Ibrahim described as being one of “father and son.” In 1998 Ibrahim got impatient about taking over from Mahathir, embarked upon a power struggle, and lost. For his troubles, Mahathir put him on trial for corruption and sodomy: and Anwar Ibrahim ended up in jail at the hand of his mentor.

Anwar Ibrahim

Upon his release, Anwar Ibrahim came to Washington, D.C., and has spent the past decade cultivating a genteel, enlightened image in the West. Otherwise informed American observers of foreign affairs have adopted him as an exemplar of liberal Southeast Asian and/or Muslim democratic governance. Just a few years ago, he was invited to teach for a year at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, from which he cultivated the acquaintances of eminent Jewish Americans like Paul Wolfowitz — as a means of showing just how far behind him was his own militant Islamist past.

Indeed, as recently as 2008, Al Gore — usually a savvy and perceptive man — could be found posting on his blog in defense of Ibrahim’s dignity in the face of criticism. That’s big-name Western approval one can’t buy — but one can work hard for it with the right enemies and media outreach inside the Beltway.

It also helps if one knows what to tell Western audiences who tune in to Western media outlets. This past March, in an interview with CNN World, Ibrahim told Wajahat Ali, “Stoking the flames of anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism is a good distraction from the stench in [Muslim societies’] own backyard, namely rampant corruption, denial of basic human rights, abuse of power and the suppression of civil society.”

The reality is that if you’d asked a well-informed American who the liberal democrat was in Malaysia between 1999 and 2009, he or she might well have said, “Anwar Ibrahim.”

But does Anwar Ibrahim’s portrayal of himself outside Malaysia match Anwar Ibrahim’s actions within his own country? Unfortunately, Ibrahim has decided to make his mark in domestic Malaysian politics — away from CNN, Al Gore, and Johns Hopkins — as an anti-American, anti-Semitic demagogue.

The proximate cause of Ibrahim’s descent into the foul rhetoric of anti-Semitism was his decision to exploit the government’s hiring of a Washington, D.C., public relations firm, APCO, to do minor communications work within Malaysia. Like many international firms, this one has done business within Israel, and even counts among its senior personnel persons of the Jewish faith.

Ibrahim has now effectively trashed his old friends in Washington and has used this PR contract as an excuse to spin a dark conspiracy theory of Jewish control, Zionist plots, and subversion.

Ibrahim’s lieutenants have charged, among other things, that the Malaysian government has “engag[ed] a company that has a close tie with the Zionist regime in Israel. Its advisory panels consist of former security chief of the Israeli government, and many of their staff are formerly from the Israel Security Agency,” and that “its operators in Tel Aviv have close links to the Zionist regime.”

Ibrahim himself has delved headlong into anti-Semitic theorizing, publicly alleging that there are “Israeli intelligence personnel in the Police IT unit.” Worse, he connected his anti-Semitism to his anti-Americanism, when he angrily denounced the Malaysian Prime Minister’s politically courageous decision to stand with President Obama and cut off oil supplies to an Iran seeking nuclear weapons. Ibrahim stood in the legislature to charge that the supposedly “Jewish-controlled” PR firm hired by the Prime Minister was, in fact, working to manipulate Malaysian policy on America’s behalf.

Ibrahim angrily demanded: “How can our foreign policy have changed dramatically,” unless Jews were controlling Malaysian affairs for America’s benefit? “Our policy on Iran shows how weak we are. Unprecedented in the history of our country, even Mahathir Mohamad himself never shifted in Afghanistan and the Palestinian question.”

Remarkably, Ibrahim closed his statement with oblique praise for Mahathir — the man who shaped Ibrahim’s core thinking on things Jewish and American. Read more..
