ADAM AND EVE

Oil on canvas by Fernando Botero.
"Adam and Eve had two children that we know of. Cain and Abel. When they grew up, Cain (or was it the other one?) went off and found a wife. Just where exactly did this woman come from?"

It was one of his sisters.

Genesis 5:4 says Adam had sons and daughters. I'm sorry that you personally know only of 2 of them, but the bible refers to 3 by name and then states that he also had daughters... Congratulations on spreading misinformation. You're a real hero.

Acctually, the woman that Cain married is never stated in the Bible to be his sister either. The Bible does say that Cain married and had children, but it never states whether or not it was his sister.
Genesis 4:10-18 states that the Lord gave punishment to Cain. "Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me."
Verses 15-16: Bu the Lord said to him, "Not so; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LRD PUT A MARK ON CAIN SO THAT NO ONE WHO FOUND HIM WOULD KILL HIM> SO CAiN WENT OUT FROM THE Lord's presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
Verse 17: Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch.
I think that it's a good thought that Cain married a sister, but there are many possibilities of whom Cain's wife was. To simply state one opinion is taking what the Bible has to say out of context and that is wrong.
To state that Cain was married and had children and leaving it at that then so be it. Who was Cain's wife? A question that may just have to stay a question until we all know.

cain was born with 1 sister, Abel with 2(Midrash on Genesis). They each married their sisters to have children. At that time before the Giving of the Bible at Mt.Sinai, such an act was permitted
