ISA It Is Not,Don't Be Fooled

Hantu Laut

The Malaysian police is not as brutal as their Thai counterparts when it comes to quelling demonstrations.

The demonstrations in Thailand which invariably started as peaceful march have, more often than not, turned violent with fatal results.

Before we realise it, ours may be going the same direction if the oppositions do not stop the nonsense, a clear attempt to undermine and destabilise the government and using the ISA as an excuse. A clear message should be sent to Pakatan Rakyat leaders that should there be anymore demonstration in the future with their participation they would have to answer their illegal actions in the court of law.

The demonstration was Anwar's attempt to rouse the people's sentiment against the government relating to his sodomy case which will be heard in court soon. The Prime Minister should not fall into the trap and felt pressured to abolish the ISA. What we see on the streets may not be representative of the majority segment of the population that want the ISA abolish.I am sure there are many ordinary citizens who do not really care or are against the ISA. Those against it were mostly politicians who are in the habit of raising sensitive racial issues and militants who resort to violence to overthrow the government.Even if the ISA was abolished the oppositions will not stop their implacable propaganda and destabilisation of the government.

I would rather have the ISA than another May 13 or senseless bombings killing innocent people. The ISA has it own uniqueness and have to certain extent help the nation maintain peace and stability. We have also been spared from acts of terrorism.Without the ISA there could never be immediate detention of militants to stop them from doing irreparable damage to the security of the nation. Without the ISA and using the slow process of the justice system militants would have ample time and opportunity to escape. They wouldn't be sitting around waiting for their court cases, would they? Sometimes, to save the majority, human rights may have to take a back seat for the individual.

There is no ISA in Indonesia and militants were having jolly good time over there. The bombing in Bali few years ago and recently the bombing of the Marriott and Carlton in Jakarta were reminders of what grievous damage the absence of such law could bring to this nation if the ISA is abolished. Do you think Nordin Top would surrender himself and say he would like to be tried in the court of law to prove that democracy and the rule of law are the best avenue to deal with such problem.

The Indonesian government has identified that the recent bombing in Jakarta was the handiwork of Nordin Top but they don't know where he is.The American with their modern gadgetry and super intelligence network do not know whether Bin Laden is dead or alive.America, previously strong opponent of the ISA has, unashamedly, copied it for their prisoners of war whom they labelled as terrorists and sent them to Guantanamo without trail.

When it comes to doing anything Malaysians are great copycats.Thailand has become a role model for them to follow including copying the use of red T-shirts resembling the Red Shirts of Thailand's pro-Taksin group and whom do you see many among the demonstrators? Though, I am far away from Kuala Lumpur I can see from my TV screen they were mostly Malays. Are the Malays that easily disoriented to fall victims to the opposition's propaganda.

There seems to be very few Chinese and Indians this time. Most were probably PAS supporters.Maybe, PAS is worried about Permatang Pasir after what happened in Manik Urai and needed to show solidarity
.

Do not BE FOOLED it is not about the abolishment of ISA, it is about the saving of Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Rakyat.

All roads lead to Anwar.

Even when 20,000 M'sians of all races carrying placards and banners saying 'Mansuhkan ISA' give advanced notice that they are marching as anti-ISA proresters, you still say, it is all about Anwar.

Even when the majority of them were PAS members. Since when did Anwar become head of PAS and control it?

Bro, let me say that because of the stupid and senseless demonstration the majority of the rakyat yesterday got stucked in massive traffic jams around Kuala Lumpur, late for weddings late for many things that normal people do with their families during the weekend. With Ramadhan very near, the Mesjid India traders, and the shopping complexes at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman who are expecting roaring trade had to close. The lose in business and wasted time would count in the scores of millions.

I agree that yesterday's event has got nothing to do with the ISA, its just Pakatan Rakyat leaders and supporters way of testing the political waters, they were not chanting death to ISA BUT death to BN. The police did a professional and commendable job of managing and controlling the demonstrators, they arrested almost 600 demonstrators. I hope tomorrow they call up Anwar, Hadi and Lim kit siang for questioning with a view to charge them with leading a illegal assembly and sedition. These people have brought nothing but hegemony and mayhem to this peaceful country. A stint in prison for the trio would give this country a much needed peaceful respite of daily non stop politicking since March 2008.

The majority who were stucked in the traffic jam and the people doing business in KL have had enough of demonstrations by Pakatan people and will support the Government on the ISA. Its about time that the ISA is used to the maximum to ensure that these demonstrations do not even see the light of day.

Mr HL Sir,

My view is simple, PAKATAN now has become politically bankrupt. The states they are governing are also susceptible to NOT ONLY corrupt practices but also involved with gangsterism as well.

The only issue that they can now sell is ISA, and of course by selling the issue lotsa people are buying. Then what? There will be a speeches by Anwar, Kit Siang and Karpal condemning the gomen.

At the end who are will really be affected, the city dwellers coz they get involved with unnecessary traffic jam.

So after ISA what else can PAKATAN sell, I guess ISA as well.

HL,

ISA is wrong. Either charge a person in open court or set him/her free (but the BN/UMNO Government has other "agenda" i.e. lock-up the Opposition when ALL else fails!).
Go ahead & beat these innocent demonstrators (history thought us how Martin Luther King Jr., Ghandi, Mandela, Suu Kyi all had peaceful demonstrations against corrupted, racists & evil Governments. I guess it's only the Myanmar Junta & BN/UMNO Government left to topple!).
It's great! Keep using the Police to beat up innocent demonstrators while Crime is rampant & getting worse!
The Rakyat will NOT forget when the next GE comes!
Salam 1-Malaysia (I guess they will keep stuffing this slogan down our throats until we puke or strangle!).

HL,

You noted that most of those taking part in the Anti-ISA demo were Malays. I suddenly realise that this is what "Ketuanan Melayu" is REALLY all about! Taking the "LEAD" in fighting for justice for ALL Races in Malaysia.
NOT the "BLUFF" Ketuanan Melayu that is propogated by UMNO where corruption & abuse of power are used to hide their true bigoted racists views!
UMNO will surely get DSAI (!) & throw him in jail BUT there will be others to take over (e.g. Zaid Ibrahim)! Unless they throw ALL the opposition leaders in jail (which we can see they are trying by using the MACC, Police & Judiciary). These views are NOT only mine but a lot of Malaysians are now openly talking about it (I guess we owe it to Badawi for being more tolerant to opposing views! Strange how things have worked out!).
However, I may be completely wrong & so as an indication, let's see what happens in Permatang Pasir.

It a blessing that ISA is in place to maintain peace and order. It is a proactive mechanism to prevent any potential bloodshed. It is alway too late when life is lost then only the authority act. Of course ISA can be abused but the benefit out weighted the detriment of any wrongful detention which is anyway very rare. Any right minded citizen will treasure the peace enjoy so far by the country.

I saluted the polices for doing a good job to crush the anti-ISA rioters. Those law breakers and peace destroyers deserves the battering, that will teach them not to behave like a rebellious mad dog but peaceful meaningful citizen.

donplaypuks,
Lest you forget PAS is in Pakatan. It certainly is about Anwar and Pakatan. The ISA was just an excuse to go on the streets. After Manik Urai PAS is now worried what next?

Permatang Pasir? There will be surprises.

SM,
ISA is not wrong,it is wrong when used wrongly.

I am not against locking up politicians whose behaviour threatened the security of this nation.Don't forget even UMNO members have been locked up under ISA before.

I think the government has been very tolerant with the oppositions. In most countries including Western nations those leaders who openly participated in any illegal activities would be hauled up.Of course in the West it is not against the law to protest or demonstrate but in Malaysia it is.Pakatan leaders have definitely broken the law by openly participating in illegal assembly.

eddy,

Those businesses that lost money because of the demonstration can sue the organisers and Pakatan leaders that participated in it.

Those inconvenience by the demo can also lodge police report. There is a law against public nuisance.

Pakatan leaders can be slapped with few charges if the police wanted to bring them to book.

The Star Paper headline was “Costly Demo”. I was curious. Imagine if the peaceful assembly was allowed, and with 15,000-20,000 people supporting the city industry of food and drinks (I can imagine the hawkers smiling now!), no road blocks (thus free access for normal shoppers), and the LRT stations at Masjid Jamek and Pasar Seni were open, how much would the city have earned? Just curious . . .I noticed the Sun didn’t even have the “demo” mentioned on the front page. Hmmm.. From a media perspective, decisions like this interest me.

Quote;
A little saving grace for the Sun by publishing former Bar Council President Yeo Yang Poh’s comment.

Because, in general, countries that do not persecute marchers are prosperous or are improving from their previous state of affairs, and those that do are declining.

Because Gandhi marched, Mandela marched, Martin Luther King marched, and Tunku Abdul Rahman marched.

Because more and more people realise that peaceful assemblies are no threat at all to the security of the nation, although they are a threat to the security of tenure of the ruling elite.

Because politicians do not mean it when they say with a straight face or a smile that they are the servants and that the people are the masters. No servant would treat his master with tear gas, batons and handcuffs.
