Is Mahathir Playing The Devil's Advocate ?

Hantu Laut

It amazes me to see some so-called writers, reporters, journalists and politicians in this country who have little understanding of "tongue-in-cheek" statements, sarcasms, metaphors, acerbic wits, or if you may, a "figure of speech" that they have taken the meaning literally, which the more initiated would not take at face value.

There was the PM wannabe daughter Nurul Izzah who literally translates Mahathir's metaphoric statement "better the devil you know" than ''the angel you don't" as Mahathir truly referring to Najib as the devil and his party a devil's empire. Now, everyone in the oppositions jumped on the bandwagon to deride Mahathir of his evil conjectures.

Here, an ex-UMNO man, in a new political vehicle, went on a rampage in his "Politik Parti Iblis Dan Syaitan" extrapolating his former party devilish past and foreseen future and expounding the legacy of Mahathir's evil empire. A sorehead with an axe to grind with Mahathir and Najib for whatever wrong they have done him when he was in UMNO.

What these people failed to see or too dim-witted to understand is that Mahathir is playing the "devil's advocate" to see what are the responses to his platitudes, dishes of sarcasm and "tongue in cheek"

Mahathir is a master of innuendoes.......his emphatic poem of "Melayu mudah lupa" had riled up some Melayus, who misunderstood the gist of the message.

Below is the message, literature or polemic, is left to one's interpretation.

Melayu mudah lupa
Melayu mudah lupa
Melayu mudah lupa
Dulu bangsanya dipijak
Melayu mudah lupa
Dulu bangsanya retak
Melayu mudah lupa
Dulu bangsanya teriak
Melayu mudah lupa
Dulu bangsanya haprak
Melayu mudah lupa
Dulu bangsanya kelas dua
Melayu mudah lupa
Dulu bangsanya hina
Melayu mudah lupa
Dulu bangsanya sengketa
Melayu mudah lupa
Dulu bangsanya derita
Melayu mudah lupa

Dulu bangsanya kerdil
Melayu mudah lupa
Dulu bangsanya terpencil
Melayu mudah lupa
Tiada daulat
Tiada maruah
Tiada bebas
Melayu mudah lupa
Melayu mudah lupa
Melayu mudah lupa
Sejarah bangsanya yang lena
Tanah lahirnya yang merekah berdarah
Ingatlah
Ingatlah
Ingatlah
Wahai bangsaku
Jangan mudah lupa lagi
Kerana perjuanganmu belum selesai

Another mishap here by an overzealous writer who run the gauntlet of literal moronic dispersal of Mahathir's thoughts.

Quote.... He mentions Mubarak, Hitler, Marcos, Ceausescu, Mussolini, Gaddaffi and Saddam Hussein – all dictators of ill repute, notorious and certainly of dubious prominence but may I humbly suggest to Tun Mahathir that maybe he might be aiming a tad too high when linking himself to these dictators...... Unquote

Hahaha! Is Mahathir that stupid to equate himself with such abominable names?

There is no qualm in my saying that those who were deriding Malaysia's GREATEST statesman were way, way down the rung of humankind IQ's or EQ's abilities! Their mind thinking is so shallow that they were putting their alma-maters, be it primary, secondary, colleges, or higher learning institutions into shame....AND they all aspire to lead this beloved nation to a supposedly greater height! Even a layman might say."bagi negara ini lingkup ada lah."

Bro HL,

Not sure what TDM is playing at (well actually we do know one thing for sure & that is he's lining up Mukhriz for "greater" heights in UMNO & Malaysian Politics) BUT just look at the Newspaper reports over the weekend & you can clearly see why he's still pulling all the strings!
Najib & Muhyiddin were very much present in TDM's Rumah Buka. You don't want the Old Man pissed of with you or you will be in serious trouble.

The accolade of Malaysia's greatest statesman may be a tad overreaching for TDM but I will admit that he is the shrewdest poltician in the Malaysian political arena, even after his retirement !

I also agree with SM's comment that "You don't want the Old Man pissed of with you or you will be in serious trouble."

The question is why is it so ? Does TDM have a file on every UMNO & BN politician that he can destroy their careers ? Or does he have the final say in "resource allocation" within BN ?

tdm's clout in our political midst is still felt, in fact he is sought after for whatever cause - from one who resigned almost a decade ago.

and further more he keeps on saying things that are practical and straight forward - thats why what he says would swing votes.

there is no one around now of his calibre.

name one? - none.

what we have are those 'bagi lingkop lagi - ada'

call it old school, but i wish he is still at the helm - he keeps everyone focussed on nation building.

we, melayus do not value the things we have.

we have tdm but there are among us who put him at par to the sadams or mubaraks..... how confusing have we become?

or stupid?

In a democratic country, this man would be arrested and tried for treason, undermining and destroying the Nation through: a) Apartheid & racism. b) Deception of the public with controlled media and rigged elections. c) Weakening almost all institutions of governance including the legislature, judiciary, police, ACC/MACC, the Election Commission, and the Attorney-General's Chambers. d) Mis-management, manipulation and corruption causing losses in hundreds of billions of RM$. If convicted all stolen assets to be returned and then the Convict executed for treason. It is appalling these people behave like heros, saints and kings without the slightest remorse or sense of shame. His sons are directors of 200 companies and drive some of the most expensive cars in the world, eg the Ferrari Enzo & the RM5.5million Bugatti Veyron…Am writing from a truly transparent and democratic country, NZ.

Weakening almost all institutions of governance including the legislature, judiciary, police, ACC/MACC, the Election Commission, and the Attorney-General's Chambers; reducing mainstream media to mere microphones of UMNO/BN; using ISA numerous times on political opponents; and the list goes on. Actually MM was far worse than dictators; while dictators act in obvious ways he was a surreptitious, self-aggrandising and evil plotter. He has done more damage to M’sia than Mubarak & Gaddafi combined. He has entrenched apartheid and destroyed the foundations of good governance. The Global Financial Integrity (GFI) reported in Jan that RM930 bil flowed out of Malaysia from 00 to 08. An economist at Morgan Stanley Singapore: Malaysia might have lost as much as US$100 bill since the early 80s to corruption (RM300 billion = 300,000 million).
When Pakatan Rakyat forms the gov’t, a special tribunal must be set up to inquire into how Mahathir and his sons accumulated so much wealth. If it can be established that they had brazenly stolen from the nation, then he and his sons must be caned in public, jailed and their wealth seized and returned to the people of M’sia.

No la Tun is not stupid , nor the oppostion. They know exactly what he means but seized it to spin to their advantage. Name of the game- Spin vs Truth. Opposition tactic when they can see something said esp by Tun will hit them and make them laughing stock , they will spin it quick to take make it to their advantage. So who is smart and quick witted enough to reply to oppositions' tagline 'Seliwat Semangsa Sematjiwajiwa'. Please dont ask DS Rais, the man who would rather membontot the TPM as long as he's beside PM or behind the PM.
