Another Tragedy In The Making

Help Find Sharlinie (Nini)
Nini, aged 5, missing since Jan 10, 2008. If you know her whereabouts call RakanCop at 03-21159999

Sister: Nini was taken by a woman.

In my previous post 'Malaysian Police - A Crying Shame' , I mentioned the possibly of the murder of Nurin and subsequent rape and murder of Preeshena Varshiny as the work of serial rapist and killer.

With the abduction of Sharlinie Mohd Nashar, another terrible tragedy is in the offing. What I find ridiculous and quite unacceptable was a report in the Star newspaper stating how the older sister of Sharlinie, after much persuasion by the press, revealed that Sharlinie was taken by a woman and bundled into a black car.

Are the reporters trying to do police work? Why would an eight- year old girl needs to be persuaded to tell the truth, unless the reporter concerned fed her with the information in the hope of getting positive response from her. This is a potential murder case and the only reliable witness is a child, where extreme care should be taken not to juggle and confuse her mind. A child of that age would have a clear mind of what she saw and wouldn't need any coaxing to tell the truth.

Reporters should stick to their job of reporting news, not interrogating victims or witnesses. This is police work and should be left to them to deal with.

Unfortunately, our police is not brilliantly famous for its crime busting feats.Over the years many innocent underage girls had been raped and murdered. Only few of the cases had been solved and brought to justice.

Below are few cases of rape and murder of underage girls in this country:

· Preeshena Varshiny (9)
· Nurin Jazlin (8)
· Nurul Huda Gani (10)
· Norshuhada Burak (6)
· Ang May Hong (9)
· Harirawati Saridi (9)
· Siti Nadirah Budah (5)
· Nor Syakila Ramli Abdullah Choo (5)
· Nor Shawni Dahlan (7)

What happen to the old adage 'Don't talk to strangers'. Don't parents teach their child at a very young age not to talk to strangers and not to accept candies or gifts from them. After so many tragedies concerning young girls being raped and murdered, it makes one wonder how some irresponsible parents still allow their child to go out unaccompanied.Unfortunately, the statistics revealed another sad side of this preventable tragedy, most of the victims were very young Malay girls.

Are we less responsible for the welfare and safety of our children or was it the old kampong mentality that we live in a safe environment like our forefathers did, therefore, making us complacent and less alert about the safety of our children?

With the rising crime rate and many unsolved murder cases, Kuala Lumpur would soon be joining the crime capital of the world.

If New York city and Hong Kong can fight crime and make the city streets safe for the city dwellers, it's utterly disgraceful that our police, instead of lowering the crime index, has unashamedly let it takes its own course.

I think the Prime Minister should seriously consider sending a message to the police, 'SHAPE UP OR SHIP OUT'.

Bro,

The crime rate has been increasing every year. Our Police are ill equipped to handle the situation. They can't even control the Mat Rempit!
Poor Nurin (& all the other "nameless" innocents) has already been sadly forgotten.
Our PM is slowly but surely losing control of the situation. Over the News I heard him tell the ones responsible for this abduction to "Repent & return this girl"! Allah help us!
Watch your children at "all" times as you can't trust anyone (& you can be sure that the Police can't do anything to help). Sorry, they are good at shooting Water Cannons though!

SM,
The police needs complete overhaul, even at the expense of sacking some of the top brass.Unfortunately, our PM did exactly the reverse, he re-appoints incompetent people back to the force.

The latest killing of the MIC assemblyman is a clear indication that criminals have no fear of the long arm of the law and are having a jolly good time tickling the police's arses, because they knew they will get away with it.

What happened to the 125 Commission Recommendations?
I don't think even one of those recommendations were inplemented.
But they did start using those "Anti Rasuah Badges" though!

Hi hantu laut,

Parents dont seem to learn. Why cant they be more vigilant, more careful?

This is not the first case of a missing child and it wont be the last.

Our neighbourhood is no longer safe for our kids.

I am speechless. I pray that little "nini" will be found soon ... safe & sound.

Kak Ton,
I feel most honoured, a celebrated lady blogger visits my humble site.

Yes, no matter how busy we are, as parents, we have responsibility toward our children and should take all precaution to ensure they are safe from harm.

This kind of parental negligence is inexcusable.I think it's high time the government introduce a law to charge parents for unworthy parenthood and negligence.

You probably know of the recent case of Britney Spears, where the court removed the child from her custody and refused to give her visitation rights because she is deemed unworthy mother.

Hantu Laut,
The neighbourhood is no longer safe; and I am pretty sure everyone are aware of the fact. For the time being, I guess it is best to have the children always around the adult's; the parent's to be exact, vicinity. So many unsolved cases we have in hand already. I hate to say this but I am pretty sure if we let things go on like this, more of this kind of case is coming.
For the time being, let us do whatever we can, and pray that Nini is OK.

Akmal,
Thank you.

Indeed, our streets are not safe, because our leaders are busy doing things for their own pecuniary benefits. When the head is not straight, the tail will follow, naturally, the police will do the same.

So, crime-busting is not a priority.

HL,

Yes, like I said in my first comment, we have to watch our children "all" the time. However, what happens when they are on the way to or from school (or even during school hours)? There are times when Parents will not be around.
We live in constant fear.
The PM (who is also the Internal Security Minister) has to plead with criminals?

SM,
As parents, it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of our children, but sometimes the unexpected can happen and beyond our control, which we will live to regret for the rest of our lives.

I have placed on my side bar a link to a website about child safety and parenting. It has many good tips. You can go there, if you are interested.

Kak Ton,

You are most welcome.I have no exclusivity to it.

The only thing the blogging community can do is to bring awareness to the people on the danger of letting their guard down on child safety.

I notice Rocky Bru,Nuraina Samad and you had taken the first step in this direction, after the murder of Nurin.

Please accept my heartiest congratulations and keep up the good work.
