Justice Must Be Seen To Be Done

Hantu Laut

Anwar Ibrahim might not be my favourite politician but I hope the rule of law will prevail in this country if the police decides to charge him.

The government  with its credibility at stake must go out of its way to ensure a fair trail for Anwar Ibrahim.None of those currently accused by him of past wrongdoings should be allowed to be involved in the case, particularly the IGP and the AG, whom he has accused of fabricating evidence in his previous sodomy case.So far the Prime Minister has kept his promise by not allowing the two to be involved.

It is also imperative that the Court and judges should have no fear to call upon any prominent figures as witnesses if the need arises. No immunity should be given to any of those holding high offices, including the PM and DPM, from appearing in court should their presence be required as witnesses.

If the government is really serious about salvaging its shrunken popularity and its inglorious reputation than it should consider taking a bold step to do what has not been done before.

Since all branches of government including the judiciary are under trail in the court of public opinion and to appease the sceptics of the impartiality of the government in the case, serious consideration should be given to appoint independent public prosecutors (foreign or local) and a trial by jury or if that is not possible than  additional judges chosen from Britain or any of the Commonwealth countries to sit with our judges to hear the case.

I hope Pak Lah will have the conscience to do what is right.

"Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done"

HL,

Bro, from your writings I know that you are an intelligent individual.

Tell me truthfully,

Do you really expect the Malaysian Government, PDRM & Judiciary to be honest, open & totally impartial in this case? If they don't "stop" him now, he may well be a MP (Kulim) soon & even worse for them, he may well be the next PM?

Don't let your dislike for DSAI cloud your better judgement.

Politics are never about the Rakyat! Is always about power!

Anwar isnt the perfect candidate for PM but is there a better one?

I echo SM's comments. I sincerely hope the government would do what you have suggested then I won't be so cynical of gomen and any of its hanger-ons. Sometime I feel that include you but not this time, my apologies.

sm,

I am still hopeful, they would change their ways.I am not sure whether Anwar is guilty or not but a fair trail is what they should give him.

fie the elf,

It must still be summer in Germany, it's hot there,it's hotter here, not the weather,it justice on trail, there can never be one if greed for power prevail over justice.

edi,

Certainly not in the present set up.Anwar can take over power using democratic means, not the way he is doing now.He would not gain power this way, they may call for emergency rule by acccusing him of being a national threat.

That's why I disagree with his method. There is nothing worse than emergency rule.

pakjaga,

It's fine to have opposing opinions, as long as we keep it civil.

HL,

Yes, "where there is life there is hope". BUT, the BN has not shown any hope of changing its ways.
What's happened to the Lingam Tapes Investigation? What's going on with the Altantunya case (both the Prsecution & the Defence seem to be on the same side! Does that tell us something?!)
Where's the PI (Bala?) that made those 2 contradictory SDs? Shouldn't he be hauled up to face charges? The list of questions goes on & on.
If DSAI is charged in court this time, he's a "gonner". They are not going to let him go no matter what the evidence says!
