Conduct Unbecoming, Message For The IGP

Hantu Laut

By now the IGP should know that he needs to revamp the whole police force if he wants to bring back respectability to the force in particular and the government in general. The only way he can bring back proper conduct and discipline to the force is the immediate sacking of those caught crossing the line.

I am no supporter of BERSIH or the opposition Pakatan Rakyat but that doesn't mean I must condone and close my eyes to wrongful actions of any branch of the government, particularly the very people who should be protecting us.....our police force.

Police brutality should not be tolerated by anyone including the IGP, who must not extenuate the criminal action of his men, or knowingly protect their wrongdoings.

The videos below are proofs of conduct unbecoming of the Malaysian Police force. Is the IGP going to deny the shameful acts of his men?

Was there a need for more than 10 policemen punching and kicking a lone protester. The ugly scene and undignified action of the policemen brought shame to the force. If they want to arrest him,  the proper thing to do is to restrain him, handcuff and take him to a police lockup before charging him with whatever crime he committed.

In another scenario a policeman pulled and pointed his gun chasing unarmed protesters when there was no imminent danger to his own safety. What sort of training these morons get in their police academy?

All the violent acts of the police pointed to one thing,  there is something seriously wrong with the police academy, poor selection and bad training had caused severe indiscipline and corruptions in the force.

If there were no drastic action forthcoming from the IGP than I suggest the PM replace him with someone who is prepared to take unpopular action to clean up the police force.

As far as I am concerned all those policemen caught on camera with conduct unbecoming should be sacked from the force. There should not be a second chance for these morons.

i also condone police violent. but as protesters are humans so do the police. as such you would have to see how and where they all started. To justify, the rally, the group and the place was given ample time and announcement of not being around the vicinity.
The police were booed and jeered long before the march started. and when the violence broke, you were angry the protesters get hurt because they stampede the police, ignore the warning and even shouted and provoked the police?
I think police have done a commending job that day. as for the protesters they get what they deservered.
stupidity, ignorance and violence begets the same thing by the other force.
you wouldn't expect the police to go there and politely told them, "salam comrades, you have ignore our warning, may we escort you to you respected place of origin?"

The police were attacked and injured badly.

They had every reason to use force (which is legally provided in section 27B of police act).

The group attack on protesters are focus on hardcore and ringleaders. The "attack" do not cause serious injuries as the casualties on the police.

It serves to instill fear within the mobs that refuse to disperse and kept regrouping.

When they are afraid of the police only them they will eventually disperse.

In the first stage, police had been tolerant and only gave warnings.

The crowd "naik kepala" from the night before and continued to test on the police patience.

The final salvo was when they passed two barricades and attempt to break the last barricade surrounding.

One you do not see was that upon creaking the first barricade of police, they chased after the police with the intention to cause harm.

There were weapons used. Mob had disarmed a police.

The video of police pointing the gun on shows the act of police pointing the gun but not what happen before. Thus is your conclusion.

Please not to be taken sop easily by opposition propoganda but be more judicious and understand the event.

Sorry guys, you are wrong, the police should not have done what they did, they can use tear gas or even rubber bullets, but policeman should not behave like barbarians, punching, kicking and using stick to hit unarmed suspect.

Anonymous,

I have always been against street demo and have defended the police in the past but I can't tolerate what I saw in the video. That attack by 10 or more policemen is unjustified.

Don’t be duped by the video footage ……is a hate campaign design to influence the publics.

I am sure the police don’t simply pull up anybody in the street and wrack them. They must have reasons behind why they did that. The video cleverly show the beatings but did not shown the cause why the police only chased this particular guy and beat him……this fellow must have done something very nasty.

Same with the police who drew the gun……the scenes before was not shown. I would not jump into conclusion only looking at what the intender want us to see.

Thank you bro for speaking up for truth. We must call a spade a spade. Truth must prevail. We must not be afraid of the truth.

There were wrong done by both sides no doubt. Of the list of injured how many police were injured? 8 from what I read from the official police report unless they have updated that. How many marchers were detained, punched, assaulted and injured by the police? Hundreds. Is this not disproportionate?

However I would expect the police to be more disciplined. They are suppose to be trained to face provocation. Excessive and unnecessary violence is never justifiable.

There are always two sides to a story. Listen to/look at both sides of a story in their totality, then, and only then can we have a clear picture. It would be unfair to condemn anyone based on just a particular event without knowing what came bafore that event and what happened afterwards.

You guys seem to forget Police are custodian of the law and must be seen to observe the law (that includes procedures on retaliations and arrests)! For instant if you see someone hit your loved one, and you ovetrcame with emotion and kill the culprit, you would still be charged for manslaughter at the very least!
Well said, Hantu Laut, an ardent Najib supporter. Those in power always say respect and observe the law, no one is above the law including the Police as custodian of the law. It would seem some of the Police had led their emotions or political bias overwhelm their professionalism :(. We can't have custodian of law running around letting their hearts ruled their heads!

Most of you are missing the point. The police are supposed to be trained to handle such situation, and therefore there are SOPs. That was what was missing in the few incidents showing police brutalities. There is no such thing as police humiliated or jeered or chased to warrant such drastic beatings. The law shall apply equally to everyone. If as pointed out the demonstrator did bad/illegal/criminal acts, it does not condone such treatment. 10 policemen can trash a single person but cannot handcuff that person and take him into custody. I have seen mob action before, but for the police to partake in the same mob action that they condemn is not right.

custodian of the law must observe of the law? ok, am with you on that..but what about lawmakers that broke the law when they are the ones that is supposed to be an example to the people and show restraint in the first place?

i shall make the case that the protestors and politicians had led their emotions and bias overwhelm their judgement and provoked the police to react. I mean surely everyone would understand that if you poke a be hive you must expect to get stung! if the provocation and law breaking did not start then there is a good chance that all the violence would not happen, would it? At least that is how it works here in planet earth. don't know from which universe you protestors are from.

we must again look in totality - look at the cause an effect. surely as a law enforcement officer you can't just stand and let people break the law? then how will people respect authoritahh!

what about the mob that beat the policeman within an inch of his life just because he was in the wrong place? sure police have SOP to handle difficult situations..but the mob, as human beings, don't they have a responsibility or human decency to not beat the policeman up like that?

therefore the argument goes: if the mob doesn't have the common sense to control their behaviour then someone else have to do it for them. sure the crowd was ok or in "festive mood" earlier but it slowly descended into anarchy as we all can see and if the police did nothing, who knows what will happen? already >RM1m worth of public property damaged before the mob went downright crazy. Based on the above, i don't see if the police have any other option especially when ordinary people turned mob don't seem to have the capacity to think and act like normal human beings.

What sickens me most is that there are one or two policemen who suddenly appeared from outside the screen area and set themselves upon the victim.

You only need 3 men to handle one protestor but wow, so many plus a few more from probably 20 meters away. I guess this is something akin to road rage.

I will support the police as guardians of law and order but this is way too much adrenalin infused.

BTW there is a comment about that traffic cop pointing a "weapon" at the crowd. It may have been a radar speed gun.
