Ambiga, Anwar:Is The British Electoral Roll Dirty Too?

Hantu Laut

Is Malaysia electoral roll as dirty as Ambiga and Anwar made it out to be that they have to organise a huge rally calling for free and fair elections?

Our laws and parliamentary system are inherited from the British.Almost everything in government are based on the British system including our civil service and not forgetting we, like the Brits, also drive on the wrong side of the road, different from the rest of Europe and America.

We have inherited a unique system of government which had prevailed well over the decades until some smart asses came up with their stupid argument that there was something very wrong with the system.

The 2005 U.K.Elections gave Labour only 36.1% of the total votes, but they managed to form the government on their own, against the total oppositions votes of 64.%.

Even if all the opposition parties joined forces, they still do not have enough seats to form the government.

The Labour Party only had 36.1% of the total votes but 56.5% of the total seats. The Conservative and all other parties put together had 63.9% of the votes but only 43.5% of the seats.

No citizen and no one in the opposition complained that the UK electoral roll is dirty or the system is fucked up.The losers took the losses in their stride.

Even Raja Petra has written about this a number of times, which was a bit unfortunate, since he now lives in the U.K, he should have known better that the same anomaly exists in the British system.

The 2010 U.K.Elections was highly contested that ended in a 'hung' parliament. No single party has sufficient majority to from the government. The result below.

Labour lost the government on 5% swing to the Conservative, yet the Conservative can't form the government on their own.

We are different from the American system as far as elections are concerned. The American president is indirectly elected by the people through what they called electoral colleges, but members of the federal legislature, the Congress are elected directly.

I have great faith in our democracy and our electoral system, it may not be perfect, but than no system is perfect, everyone has a fair chance of winning an election, without fear or favour, as can be seen in March 2008. The opposition did not win the federal government then was because of the system, not of cheating or dirty electoral rolls.

I challenge Ambiga and Anwar to show substantive proof that there had been massive cheating in past elections and that the electoral rolls are dirty.

The Purple Prose !

Hantu Laut

Remember! When we first learned to write English we were told about the correct usage of the language.

Never start a sentence with a conjunction, an adjective is always followed by a noun and so forth. Those were the infant days of our learning process.

As many of you would know the English language has many pitfalls on the correct usage of words and grammar.

Some of us do break the rules, murdering the language, preferring style over conformity. Some, killed the story they wrote with prolixity, quantity over substance. Some, are verbose, wordy and long-winded and the story got lost in translation. Some, are just not adapt to writing but tried anyway and got lost in the twilight world of ignorance.

If you think that's all funny, nothing beats over-the-top word overkill.......it's there staring right at you.

PKR holds Umno responsible for ‘night of bloodshed’ in Lembah Pantai

Only two people were hurt in the fracas. The editor should be stoned for this laughable mix of contradiction and exaggeration.

The night saw a senior citizen suffering an open wound to the head after being hit with a stone and a 12-year-old possibly breaking her wrist.

What the hell a 12-year old doing attending a political ceramah? It shows Malaysian parents bear no discipline themselves exposing their kids to the smutty world of politics at such tender age.

To make these links is to overlook decades of known atrocities committed by Umno to control the rakyat. We cannot ignore the wider picture in an effort to seek easy answers and scapegoats to explain these abhorrent actions.

The tragedy of May 13 was blamed on worsening Malay-Chinese relations, the Memali incident on a banned Islamic sect and the murder of Altantuya on a greedy vindictive woman. Scratch beneath the surface and a different picture emerges.

Legally Right,Morally Wrong: Bar Council's No Moral Ground

Hantu Laut

It is not legally wrong to screw your best friend's wife? Ain't it, if she is a willing partner and both of you are consenting adults.

How would your best friend reacts when he found out,  you, of all people, a friend he trusted, screwed his wife?

We all know between legally right and morally wrong. If you don't,  you are only half a human being.

When I wrote about former Solicitor-General Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden's decision to join Anwar's defence team I never mentioned that it was legally wrong for him to do so. I am looking at it from moral point of view not legal point of view. The Bar Council was quick in defending him.

Extract from Free Malaysia Today:

Bar Council President Lim Chee Wee said Yusof followed the “cab rank rule”, a basic principle in legal practice, and praised the latter for doing so in the “fine tradition of the Bar”.
The “cab rank rule” refers to the obligation of a lawyer to represent any client who seeks his or her services, provided that it is in the lawyer’s area of practice and the client is willing to pay the lawyer’s usual rates. The concept is derived from the idea of a queue of taxis, each taking the first customer who comes along.
“The cab rank rule in essence obliges an advocate to accept a brief which he has the skill or experience for regardless of personal feelings or views, or even the harm to his person or reputation,” said Lim.
The rationale for this rule, he explained, is to ensure that everyone and anyone has access to a counsel of choice.
“In the present case, where the former prosecutor in the Sodomy II trial is now acting on behalf of the leader of the opposition in a separate criminal proceeding, he is doing so in the fine tradition of the Bar of following the cab rank rule,” Lim told FMT when contacted.
Read the Bar Council full legal parody here.

Obviously, the Bar Council is not concerned with moral obligations as long as it serves a political purpose and one that disparages the establishment, which was the whole idea played behind the curtain.

Anwar Ibrahim is surrounded by a bunch of more than eager lawyers to defend him as their future investment. Should Anwar be successful in taking over Putrajaya that investment would yield pretty good dividends. Why would he needs an ex solicitor-general who is not even known as a hot-shot legal prosecutor or a well-grounded lawyer to be on his defence team?

Now, you tell me, is there a dearth of lawyers for Anwar, or it is just another of Anwar's beguile the people, trolling for more sympathy votes.

Anwar claimed a symbolic victory saying that someone (referring to the ex SG) who was in government did not want to be part of what he called the "dirtiness"and that Yusof Zainal Abiden's entry into his legal team was "meaningful" to him and a "positive development"

The former SC had 2 years to find his conscience if he knew evil has a hand in the sodomy trail, the government the predator and Anwar the victim, why did he not disqualify himself from leading the prosecution if he knew of the conspiracy to fix Anwar? You mean after 2 years he is still blur about the case and only realised it after he left the service and got his pension?

Why did Karpal Singh says Yusof's entry into Anwar defence team "is a blow to the government". Does he know something that we, the people, do not know ?

The Bar Council, who cares little for moral standard, has thrown its support for this man, whom together with the presiding judge and the AG, they cursed all the way to hell when he was acting for the government in the Anwar's sodomy case.

Now, Yusof is legally free to follow some ludicrous legal jargon called "cab rank rule"which makes Anwar Ibrahim looked like having too many half-past-six lawyers representing him, that he desperately needs the legal expertise of Yusof to defend him against the evil regime.

What could be better than an "inside man"

I have nothing against Yusof but I think public servants, politicians and any holder of public office must show some degree of moral standard.

Unfortunately, both sides of the political sphere, including those in public services have shown little comfort to the populace of their integrity and moral standards.

Since Yusof is unlikely to boost the people's morale of Anwar, the government should just let it rest.

Distasteful, Imprudence And Contemptible

Hantu Laut

This kind of thing can only happen in third world countries, where third world mindset thrives and people have little self-respect.

More often than not, those holding public offices and in politics lack continence, be it sex or power, they pay covenant to the devil.

What former Solicitor-General Yusof Zainal Abiden did is most disgusting and deserves public odium and contempt.

Anwar, innocent or guilty, he should have exercised better discretion, stay away from him.He is only creating doubts in people's minds that he may have been double-dealing.

Even more contemptible is the exuberance expressed by Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan leaders of this imprudence. A distasteful windfall they proudly say advantageous to Anwar, if that would be at best, an aptitude test for the former solicitor-general who had proved himself a poor and failed public prosecutor.

Hypothetically, what do you make of a former judge or public prosecutor who become friend with a murderer whom they failed to send to prison or the gallows, not because he is innocent, but because of the prosecutor's shoddy work?

Going by the many episodes of unconscionable politicians jumping from one riverbank to another, slamming and discrediting their former party, Malaysia's moral ground is fast slipping into the slimy gutter.....the increasing population of slimy people-pleaser.

The story here.
