Pakatan's 1 Million Shame

Hantu Laut

Here I am in Kota Kinabalu monitaring the 1 million Pakatan's "Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat" and from various reports coming out of KL things not looking too good for Pakatan.

Having past the dateline of 2 p.m. they have not even achieved 5% of the estimated 1 million turnout.

People are tired of Anwar Ibrahim's antics, of being used to serve his selfish political agenda.

I can already visualise the excuse he will give for the poor turnout.

From Malaysia Insider:

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 ― Thousands are already gathering inside the Stadium Merdeka in the capital city for the “Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat” to protest a raft of issues backed by Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
The predominantly Malay protestors, clad in a rainbow of colours but mostly green and yellow, hoisted PAS flags and banners calling for the country's riches to be returned to the people.
Outside the stadium where Independence was declared nearly 56 years ago, food and drinks stalls were doing a roaring trade.
No police or riot police trucks were observed in the area although the Dang Wangi district police station is across the stadium.Read more.

From Free Malaysia Today:
UPDATED 12 NOON
KUALA LUMPUR: Thousands of people have started to stream into the nation’s federal capital to participate in the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat rally at Stadium Merdeka this afternoon.
By noon, eye-witnesses claim that more than 50,000 people have gathered at various spots, all heading towards Stadium Merdeka.
Supporters started gathering as early 4am this morning in anticipation of a police shutdown of the city.
However, there were no police roadblocks anywhere, and in fact the police are helping the people, mostly from out-of-state, giving them directions to where they are supposed to gather.
The rally-goers would meet at eight locations in the city before marching to Stadium Merdeka for the rally which starts at 2pm.
The meeting points are the Universiti Malaya mosque, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), Jalan Sultan, Central Market, Kampung Baru, Masjib Negara and Dataran Merdeka.
While Dataran Merdeka is off limits due to some road repaving works by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the police have given all clear for other meeting points.

A survey by FMT revealed that the city centre is still experiencing smooth traffic flow except for some roads.
Police Facebook reported that Jalan Loke Yew leading to Jalan Kinabalu was choked with traffic.
The police’s initial estimation was that only about 1,000 people have gathered at Masjid Negara, while eyewitnesses claimed that the number could be as high as 20,000.
It must be noted that Masjid Negara is the meeting point for PAS supporters from the northern states.
The mosque was also filled to the brim for the morning prayers today – all made up of the rally goers (pix below).Read more.

Note that stadium merdeka capacity is only 25,000. Yes the stadium was full. You do the math on the numbers. Maximum 50-60,000 crowd. Peace

HL,

Sour Grapes (Anonymous 3:52pm has it right!) is the right word for you looks like!
I was there at Stadium Merdeka today. It was packed (not even sitting room). The whole Stadium (which includes the whole Field) was full. There were Thousands that had to wait outside because they couldn't enter.
You show a picture that was taken earlier in the day. I have photos that show the opposite.
You have now passed the test to apply to write for the Utusan, Berita Harian & the Star! a sad day for you HL! Even though I know where your loyalties lie, I didn't think you would stoop so low as to lie.

If you can monitor the Himpunan Kebangkitan rakyat turn-up from as far as Kota Kinabalu, Sabahan would not have become the poorest among Malaysian. Now the true pictures are everywhere. Convinced now? Stadium Merdeka could only take 30,000. We had more than 100,000 people there. Give us a premise that can take 500,000. We'll show you 1 juta!

No point arguing with cows.

Obviously, you all either can't read and understand English, or simply too cowed by Pakatan leaders to admit the truth, the turnout was a big failure.Read the title of my posting.Did you really have 1 million on that day?

SM, you are angry because you can't accept the truth that Pakatan going to lose the elections and the biggest liar and hypocrite Anwar is going down with it.

I looked at some pics at the Star Online website (a pro govt media) and it certainly showed a full crowd at the stadium, including covering the field.

A million people would have gridlocked the city and yes, that is a superfluous claim but the PR. However, sometime last year, I thought UMNO also made that same call but also did not make 1 million. So, both sides are failures in the same area !!!

But if SM was actually in the stadium and you were not, then either SM is a liar or you have mispresented the facts.

The rally showed a number of positives. It showed that Malaysians can have peaceful rallies. It showed that if the police and organisers collaborate, there is no problem.

Compare this with the Bersih rallies when the LRT was shut down, roads were blocked, teargas fired, etc, there is a world of difference. And this is because of co-operation and not confrontation.

Purple Haze,

You must thank your Prime Minister Najib, because he listens to the rakyat, not to some of his stupid UMNO advisers.

You should give the man a chance , he has worked hard toward making Malaysia a free and better place.

What is so proud of having 30k to 40k attendence when Old men,half-baked and paid students, under aged children and even babies who did have an inch of ideas about the objectives of the rally. To add salt to the wound, when AI started his wayang, most participants started to walk out of stadium. The hardcore PAS supporters were grumbling, the event was dull,no tear gas and water cannon. They were also complaining why those who came from Ktan and Kedah were given less ang pow than those from south.Talk about giving premise that can take 500k,do not be so arrogant. The Police had proposed to the organizer Bkt Jalil Std with capacity of near 100k,why the proposal was not taken.Always in the state of denial and that is the trade that they adopted.

I do like PM Najib. I have nothing against him and support his ideas, somewhat. In fact, many many years ago, I can even say that he was my neighbour since his house was about 100 m from mine and I do know some of his siblings.

But what he wants to achieve does not seem to be supported by the people under him who seem set on usurping him. That is setting him back. He wants to have 1 Malaysia and we should think like Malaysians but even his number 2 says he is Malay first and Malaysian second.

That goes directly in opposition of what number 1 wants. This seems to indicate that there are those within UMNO who do not want Malaysia to be a free and transparent place.

But supporting him also means supporting those who do not want Malaysia to be open to all. They have a different agenda and are using him. I would even venture to say that even his wife is working on a different direction than he is.

So does one support the person or the party ?
